MTO staff get a little taken off the top for Cops for CancerBy Dermott Barrett Police officers from across the province annually help raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society by collecting pledges from co-workers, friends and family, and then shaving their heads. Last March, 37 people, including employees from MTO enforcement in Durham, Peel and Halton, the Ontario Provincial Police, Durham Regional Police Service, the RCMP, Durham Region Emergency Medical Services and the Durham Region Firefighters, raised $18,715.75 by going bald for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Ron DeMerchant from Eastern Region, and his nine-year-old son Louis, with their newly shaven heads after raised $365 at the May Cops for Cancer event. ): In March, Tyrone Greenidge (standing, left to right), Karl Kaseloo, Mike Jansen, Mark Bonner, Dermott Barrett, Jim Gray, Kelly and Norm Mathieu (a husband and wife team that raised over $5,000), Frank Yalaska (kneeling, left to right) and Brenda Johnston helped raised over $18,000 to fight cancer. Missing from the photo are Gloria Armstrong and Ed Hartnick.
