FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Commercial Motor Vehicle Blitz In Peel

In keeping with the MTOA commitment to promote Ontario's Transportation Officers to the public, we are pleased to announce MTO Peel Region completed its latest commercial motor vehicle truck blitz with our partners in road safety including Ontario Provincial Police, York Regional Police, Guelph Police, Peel Police, Canada Customs and Ministry of Environment. Approximately 50 officers were assigned to this blitz. Vehicles were selected at random and escorted to the safety lanes where MTO trained CVSA officers inspected them. A total of 270 commercial motor vehicles were inspected and 108 of these vehicles were removed from the road, as a result of various mechanical defects and safety violations. These numbers indicate that 40 per cent of the vehicles inspected were unsafe.

In addition, 8 Dangerous Goods charges were laid and 78 Provincial Offence Notices were issued for various commercial motor vehicle violations under the provisions of the Highway Traffic Act, including insecure loads, failing to produce inspection reports and various other documentation and equipment violations.
