FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Commercial Motor Vehicle Blitz In Durham

In keeping with the MTOA commitment to promote Ontario's Transportation Officers to the public, we are pleased to announce MTO Durham Region completed its latest commercial motor vehicle truck blitz in partnership with the Durham Regional Police on October 6-9, 2006, in Durham. Officers from the Durham Region MTO Enforcement office in partnership with Durham Police inspected a total of 187 commercial motor vehicles and removed 117 of these vehicles from the road, and seized 65 sets of plates, as a result of various mechanical defects and safety violations. These numbers indicate that 63 per cent of the vehicles inspected were unsafe.

In addition, 47 Provincial Offence Notices were issued for various commercial motor vehicle violations under the provisions of the Highway Traffic Act, including insecure loads, failing to produce inspection reports and various other documentation and equipment violations.
