FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Commercial Motor Vehicle Blitz In Richmond Hill In keeping with our commitment to promote Ontario's Transportation Officers to the public, we are pleased to announce MTO York Region completed its latest commercial motor vehicle truck blitz in partnership with the York Region Police on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, in the Town of Richmond Hill. Officers from the York Region MTO Enforcement office in partnership with York Region Police, inspected a total of 57 commercial motor vehicles and removed 19 of these vehicles from the road as a result of various mechanical defects and safety violations. These numbers indicate that 33 per cent of the trucks inspected were unsafe. In addition, 39 Provincial Offence Notices were issued for various commercial motor vehicle violations under the provisions of the Highway Traffic Act, including insecure loads, improper braking systems, failing to produce inspection reports and various other documentation and equipment violations. One commercial motor vehicle driver was arrested and charged with driving while being disqualified as a result of a previous impaired driving conviction. The commercial motor vehicle he was operating was impounded for 45 days under the Provincial Vehicle Impoundment Program (VIP). July 21, 2006 End Press Release
