2005 INSPECTORS COMPETITION
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 2005 Provincial Inspectors' Competition - National Safety Code (NSC) Challenge, which was hosted by RUS Northern Region on July 14- 16, 2005, in North Bay. Enforcement officers from across the province competed in the event, which consisted of a series of tests, inspections and personal interviews. It was my pleasure to be in North Bay along with Ernie Bartucci and the RUS management team to be part of this impressive event. I am pleased to announce that Travis McMunn, Eastern Region Enforcement, was named Grand Champion, and will represent Ontario at the 2005 North American Inspectors' Championship (NAIC) to be held in August in Tampa, Florida. I would also like to take this opportunity to commend everyone who helped make this event a success, including the Organizing Committee, Carrier Safety and Enforcement Branch, Field Operations and Central Region Enforcement, Drivers & Vehicles, and the many other staff who volunteered their time. Take pride in knowing that events such as this one continue to play an important role in our road safety efforts, and contribute to the safety of all Ontarians. As in previous years, this event was held in conjunction with the Ontario Truck Driving Championships. This partnership provides a unique opportunity for members of the commercial vehicle industry and MTO to share information toward achieving our collective road safety goals. In addition to the Grand Champion award won by Travis, the winners' circle from this competition includes: Dangerous Goods Inspection - Mike Winegardner, Central Region Enforcement Motor Coach Inspection - Brent Grice, Southwest Region Enforcement Driver Inspection - Brent Grice, Southwest Region Enforcement CVSA Level 1 Vehicle Inspection - Bob Lickers, Southwest Region Enforcement 2nd Runner-up - Mike Winegardner, Central Region Enforcement 1st Runner-up - Brent Grice, Southwest Region Enforcement Again, congratulations to everyone who participated, not only in this event, but in the various regional competitions leading up to the provincials in North Bay this past weekend. Good luck to Travis as he represents Ontario at the North American Inspectors' Championship next month. He takes with him a strong legacy of excellence demonstrated by Ontario's representatives over the years.
