Roadside inspector in the spotlight

Bryan Card, one of our own Transportation Enforcement Officers from Windsor District, recently competed in the 2004 North American Inspectors Championship (NAIC) held in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bryan was one of 50 Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance certified North American Standards Level 1 roadside inspectors and one of five inspectors representing Canada at the competition.

Each inspector was judged in eight categories, including Hazardous Materials/Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Out-of-Service criteria and Driver/Credentials Inspection.

In getting to Utah, Bryan first competed in the 2004 Provincial Inspector's National Safety Code (NSC) Challenge, where he was successful in becoming Grand Champion. The NSC Challenge attracted a high calibre of competitors from the many dedicated enforcement officers from across the province who had been successful in their respective regional competitions.

Participating in the North America-wide NAIC event involved a tremendous amount of hard work and personal dedication. Bryan's performance at the championship reflects his commitment and the high standards of Ontario's vehicle inspection program along with the ministry's strong focus on road safety.

That commitment is also demonstrated by Kerri Wirachowsky, a 2001 NAIC Grand Champion and Kitchener District Transportation Enforcement Officer, who was a Co-Chair of the 2004 NAIC Coordinating Committee.

Through the ongoing efforts of Champion Enforcement Officers such as Bryan and Kerri, our roads continue to be the safest in Canada.
